How Partners Can Help With Night Feeds

Soft rechargeable night light for night feeds

Even if you're not the one feeding, there's a lot you can do at 2am. Here's a simple night shift checklist for partners, grandparents and best friends.

Talk about it before bedtime

One mum's best advice: “Have a chat about who's doing what before bedtime. It's much harder when you're both tired at 3am.”

The night shift checklist

  • Bring bub to her, then bring water
  • Take the nappy change
  • Burp, settle, back to bed
  • Refill the snack basket before you sleep
  • Take the early shift, so she gets one longer stretch
  • Say “you're doing so well” out loud

Help with the setup

Keep the night feed station stocked: water bottle filled, snacks topped up, and the night light charged. A soft light means nappy changes and settling don't need the big light either.

A rechargeable breastfeeding night light is one of the most-used things in the house during the newborn months, and it becomes a kids' night light later on.
